Our Pal, The Ego

We all have shadow and light. The shadow has many names like the ego, illusions, the lower self, the pain-body, demons and the lower darkness. We tend to see it in others and have a harder time identifying it in our self.

A. What are some of the functions of the ego:
The ego likes to chatter and stay busy. It likes to make us feel inferior or superior to others. It likes to feel seperate from everything around us. The ego does not like to live in the present, so it likes to make us live in the future or past. It makes us feel like there is not enough (i.e. time, energy, resources, money, etc.). The ego is small and ignorant and operates from a place of limitations. The ego is an aspect of shadow and feeds on fear.

Qualities of Shadow:
fear, laziness, anger, resentment, dishonesty, envy, greed, mistrust, etc.

B. In order to heal our shadows:
We must be willing to acknowledge it in our selves and make the commitment to bring it to the light. We have to realize that our shadows and egos belong to us. We have to be responsible for our own spaces, actions, beliefs, and creations. By constant care and focus, we can heal the ego.

C. How can we heal the ego:
We can heal the ego by being honest with ourselves about what we are thinking and feeling in the present now. We can use our spiritual practice and healing work to help the shadow to come up. Ego can be addressed by being more honest with those around us and dealing with the unpleasant situations. Ego dissipates when you learn to stay present. By setting a clear intention to bring more light and love into our daily lives, we increase the light and lessen the dark.

D. Seven Steps to Overcoming Ego's hold on you
- stop being offended
- let go of your need to win
- let go of your need to be right
- let go of your need to be superior
- let go of your need to have more
- let go of identifying yourself on the basis of your achievements
- let go of how others think about you

E. Six ego beliefs that keep us disconnected from The Source
- I am what I have
- I am what I do
- I am what others think of me
- I am seperate from everyone
- I am seperate from all that is missing in my life
- I am seperate from God/Goddess/All That Is
